| more weird people in taiwan |

so i have this theory about people in taiwan. expats who turn 30 and are still in taiwan turn crazy. or not crazy...just weird. like they know that they won't fit in with normal society back in their home countries, so they stay in taiwan, hoping that the label of foreigner will explain away their weirdness. also, 90% of them are men. maybe they also realize subconsciously that they can't get dates in their home countries either.
women don't usually stay in taiwan.
anyway. the reason for that little side observation was because they've hired four new teachers at washington. all of them are guys over 30, and all of them are a little...quirky.
they'll fit in well.
and i'm officially the odd duck out as the only foreign woman on staff. i'm also way younger than all my colleagues. and all of my friends from my first job have either left - or it's too awkward to hang out with them because i left the buxiban system and they didn't. so while it's fun to hang out with my coworkers at work, i have nothing in common with them.
and no one else to really hang out with.
oh, well. i spent most of high school and college being the observer without actually getting involved with any social scene. i can do it for one more year. i'm naturally pretty anti-social anyway. but it's still going to be kind of lonely. |

It's always hard to be a social butterfly when you are smarter and less outgoing than the rest. I used to feel that way, too. Somehow, I have evolved into quite the social being, by finding friends who are more like me. My closest friends are stong, smart, independent women. I'm the odd duck now by being the one with a small child, because most women my age, have teen or adult children, not preschoolers. Oh, well.
that's really funny, because my mom complains about just the opposite... she has adult children and everyone she knows has preschool or school-aged kids.
It sucks, doesn't it? I never really minded before. Yet being in such a distant place... it's weird.
My in-laws 'kindly' points out to me how bored and lonely I am, and quite frequently try to find ways for me to find "some friends"
Blegh.
if i wanted friends my age, i could just go clubbing. double blegh.
that's SO much fun, youknow. Random dudes humping your ass....
yeuch. Somehow, that actually sounds better than Babysitting, though.

just depends on if you want a 30 year old or a 3 year old humping you. personally, i'll take neither and stay home.
ahahahaha :')
Oh, I think I got roped into tutoring a 5th grader with adhd on reading. Adorable girl, I just think this might end up being rather daunting. O_o Halp!

have her act out the story as she reads it. it forces comprehension and allows her to jump all over the room.
Oooohhhh. I like that. And it'll tire her out so she's not climbing the walls!

crap...i sound like a teacher, don't i?
You sound like you've got experience! This is so tough, I've only babysat my brother and sister, and my FIL wants me to put an ad out for babysitting. Or join Avon. Or put an ad for tutoring.
And I feel like I have absolutely no experience to do ANY of these. I"m so useless :(

i feel like that every day of the week. i just kinda muddle through. i think that's what everybody does. people who know what they're doing are the ones who have faked it for so long that they've either learned or they've begun to believe their own bullshit.
haha :) I hope so. Do you know any good websites or have any other suggestions for this tutoring thing? She wants me to let her know how much I charge, but I honestly have no idea. I'm thinking perhaps just sitting down with the little girl and talkign with her first. SHe's the same one I taught how to crochet, so she's quite smart, and I think she'd try.
I'm really trying to psyche myself into this. :P | |
